AV - Which Side Are You On?

If you're wondering how to vote on Thursday, below is a short list of how people or organisations you may like or dislike are going to vote:

For AV Against AV
Tony Benn Norman Tebbit
Ken Livingstone David Cameron
John McDonnell MP Pretty well the entire Tory party
Jeremy Corbyn MP Nick Griffin BNP
Caroline Lucas MP Caroline Flint MP
George Monbiot Hazel Blears MP
Mark Thomas Lord Prescott
Peter Tatchell The Sun
Billy Bragg The Daily Mail
Charlie Brooker Peter Stringfellow
www.dearunite.com Unite the union

Lessons from the past: Why Tories oppose AV.

'Vote no to AV' group accused of being 'a Tory front organisation'.

Or, if you prefer, an impartial

  1. Some other people and organisations advocating a NO vote in the referendum:

    Labour Representation Committee: http://l-r-c.org.uk/news/story/lrc-says-no-to-av/

Socialist Campaign Group labour MPs Katy Clark, Kelvin Hopkins, and Ronnie Campbell http://www.labourlist.org/labour-mps---are-they-yes-or-no-to-av

    GMB http://www.gmb.org.uk/docs/av.doc

    RMT http://www.rmt.org.uk/Templates/Internal.asp?NodeId=144251

  2. Yes thanks for that I could have gone on with a much longer list. I still think the list shown sums it up well. Which side are you on, boys?

  3. I'm voting No to AVMay 01, 2011 11:39 pm

I wasn't entirely convinced before but with Dear Unite saying Yes and the RMT, GMB and UNITE saying No then i'll definitely voting No.

Dearunite always on the wrong side for the wrong reasons.

  4. It's interesting that John McD is in a minority of the Labour Left in supporting AV.

It's also interesting that dearunite doesn't list Clegg as one of the supporters. Embarrassment?

  5. Interesting that Respect, Jerry Hicks's party, is also calling for a no vote - http://www.voterespect.org/2011/03/against-alternative-vote-yes-to-pr.html

And Jerry isn't listed on either side in the posting. Does that mean that dearunite forgot to put him on the list just under Cameron?

  6. I think that confirms that this site is not run/owned/controlled or financed by any political party or other organisation doesn't it? Unlike some sites I could mention.

  7. Rather than concentrating on who will be voting a particular way would it not be better to focus on their reasons?

  8. Am I being cynical in observing that the majority of Labour MPs are opposed to AV whilst they are happy to have a disprortionate influence on the election of the Labour Party leader using a very similar system?

  9. 'Leading No campaigner, Labour's Margaret Beckett said the "amazing" result was "better than I had hoped". '

  10. Why is it that a lot of FPTP supporters support PR?

  11. As usual Dearunite is on the losing side.

  12. idiot. dearunite.com opposed the election of the Con-Dem government. Presumably you did too. Is that therefore the wrong side to be on?
